Situated in the nearby village of Glamis this famous Scottish castle was the childhood home of HRH Queen Elizabeth, the late Queen Mother and birthplace of the late Princess Margaret. It was also the legendary setting for Shakespeare's Macbeth. Within the castle are fine collections of china, paintings, tapestry and furniture. A popular tourist attraction the castle is open to the public and there are gift and garden shops as well as a self-service restaurant.
Glen Isla is the most westerly of the lovely Glens of Angus. The gateway to the Glens is Kirriemuir, a small town best known as the childhood home of J M Barrie, creator of Peter Pan. In the town there is a museum/exhibition in the house he was born in and also a café and small shop.

The nearby city of Dundee in recent years has become known as the City of Discovery because of its links with the Royal Research Ship Discovery, famous for taking Captain Scott on his epic trip to Antartica. The ship which was built in Dundee is now berthed here and takes center stage as part of a spectacular visitors centre and museum complex.
